The Whale Opens Agent Booking – First Tickets Sold

27.04.2026

On June 4, 2027, the unique venue The Whale opens on Andøya—a spectacular meeting point between humans and whales unlike anywhere else in the world. Agent booking has now opened, and the first tour operators have already secured their tickets.

On the northern tip of Andøya, facing the open ocean, The Whale is currently taking shape. The center will combine the finest elements of science, art, storytelling, experience design, and architecture to offer guests an intimate and authentic encounter with whales.

The project began as an idea in 2014. Now, the official opening is set for June 3, with The Whale opening to the public on June 4, 2027 "A vision is becoming reality. The building is rising, the content is soon going into production, the brand is established, and the first tickets have been sold. This is a major milestone for The Whale and all of Northern Norway," says CEO Børre Berglund of The Whale.

Nature and Community

"The Whale will be far more than just a tourism attraction. By spreading knowledge about whales, we want to raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation," says Berglund.

At the same time, The Whale is deeply rooted in the local community on Andøya. Developed through years of local involvement, the project will contribute to activity, job creation, and new opportunities for tourism across the region.

"People on Andøya have lived alongside whales for generations. That is why The Whale is also about the local community, its history, and the deep knowledge that exists here," says Berglund.

Architecture Shaped by the Landscape

Designed by the Danish architecture firm Dorte Mandrup, the building forms an integral part of the unique visitor experience. The architecture is shaped by the landscape, the ocean, and the movement of whales, creating a new landmark at the edge of the sea.

The location is no coincidence. Andøya is one of the world's premier year-round whale-watching destinations, thanks to the underwater Bleik Canyon and its proximity to the continental shelf, which creates ideal conditions for marine life.

"The architecture is part of the overall experience. Before you even enter The Whale, you feel where you are: at the ocean's edge, in a landscape where people have lived in harmony with whales for generations," says Berglund.

Agent Booking Open – First Tickets Sold

Last week, The Whale opened its agent booking system. The first tickets are already sold, and the company is now working closely with tour operators and travel partners to include The Whale in their 2027 itineraries.

Unlike many other nature-based attractions in Northern Norway, The Whale is a year-round destination. The consistent presence of sperm whales off the coast of Andøya enables tour operators to offer this experience every month of the year.

"Market response shows that The Whale fills a clear demand. Tour operators are seeking high-quality, authentic experiences deeply tied to their location that offer much more than a standard visit. We deliver on all those fronts. The Whale brings something entirely new to Northern Norway as a destination—an experience that can only be found right here," Berglund concludes.
