Sami Fjord Cruise with Fjord Cruise Vesterålen
Embark on a scenic cruise through Sørfjorden, where spectacular Arctic scenery, rich Coastal Sámi heritage, and centuries-old travel routes create an unforgettable journey between mountains, sea, and sky.
Sørfjorden – known as Orjjesvuotna in Sámi language – is surrounded by steep mountains, pristine Arctic landscapes, and historic travel routes that have connected communities along the coast of Vesterålen for generations.
The fjord bears the legacy of the Coastal Sámi people, who lived from the sea, fishing, and the natural resources of Northern Norway’s fjords. For centuries, this area served as a cultural meeting place between Sámi and Norwegian communities, where life was closely connected to the sea, the changing seasons, and the Arctic environment. Many place names throughout the region have Sámi origins, and Sørfjorden is known by its Northern Sámi name, Orjjesvuotna.
As you journey through the fjord, you will experience not only breathtaking scenery but also the stories of the people who lived here—between the sea, the mountains, and the ever-changing Arctic light.
